Albert (Al) Joseph Hooper, aged 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 19, 2025, in Bryan, Texas.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 1:00 PM in the Chapel in Hilltop Lakes, Texas. 2 Hilltop Lakes Dr. Hilltop Lakes , Texas 77871.
Born on August 15, 1939, in Normangee, TX, Albert joined the Navy immediately after graduating from Normangee High School. Following his service aboard the U.S.S. Brinkley Bass, he earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Long Beach State in California and a master’s degree from Cal-State Fullerton. In his early career he worked on both Minuteman and Apollo rocket systems and later concluded his career in computer network education.
Albert’s hobbies included baseball—especially his beloved Red Sox—along with golf, caring for horses, and playing bridge. His true passion, however, was service to the community. Over the years he served as a Little League coach, volunteer EMT, member of both the Lions Club, Veterans’ Honor Guard, and the Normangee Ex-Students Scholarship Program. In every community he lived in, it was well known that if there was a need for volunteer work, you could count on Al Hooper.
In passing, Albert rejoins his parents Albert Lee and Elizabeth Marie Sullivan Hooper; his brothers Gary Don and Daniel; his sisters Patricia Ann Nordin and Essie Hooper; his grandsons Patrick Boles Jr. and Matthew Boles; and his granddaughter Caitlin Boles.
He is survived by Rhea Rasmussen Hooper, his devoted wife of 65 years, along with their three children: Michelle Boles and her husband Patrick, Mark Hooper, and Christine Davis and her husband Darren.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kristen Boles, Natalie Boles, Michael Davis and his wife Tiffany, Bradley Boles and his wife Amy, Shannon Boles, Megan Daniel and her husband Ben, Rebecca Boles, and Nathan Davis, as well as twelve great-grandchildren. All will be lifelong beneficiaries of his example of service to faith, family, community, and country.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Al’s name to St. Jude’s Hospital.
