Matthew John Vitek, age 68, passed away peacefully on Monday September 1st, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on December 21, 1957, in Kansas City, Missouri, Matthew was the son of Bernice Ann Vitek and Martin Andrew Vitek. He was raised with strong values of service, dedication, and family that would guide him throughout his life.

Matthew graduated from Edward White Senior High School in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1976. Soon after graduation, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. During his distinguished military career, he faithfully served from 1977 until 1994. Following his military service, Matthew continued serving others through a career with the United States Postal Service, where he worked for 17 years before retiring.

Matthew is preceded in death by his parents, Bernice Ann Vitek and Martin Andrew Vitek, and by his brothers, David Vitek, Daniel Vitek, and Martin Vitek II.

He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his brother, Michael Vitek; his sisters, Marcia Bain, Denise Trethewey and Yukari Vitek; his son, Alexander Vitek, and daughter-in-law, Courtney Vitek; and his beloved grandchildren, Dalilah Vitek, Jon Mason, Temperance Vitek and Peter Vitek.

In his later years, Matthew found great comfort and joy living in the embrace of his son and family. Surrounded by those who loved him most, he enjoyed the precious gift of family, creating memories that will be treasured for generations to come.

Matthew will be remembered for his commitment to service, his dedication to his country and community, and the love he carried for his family. His life was marked by honor, perseverance, and devotion, and his legacy will continue through all who knew and loved him.

Though he will be deeply missed, Matthew's memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.

Services for Matthew Vitek will be held Friday morning, September 4, 2026 at the Vitek residence in Marquez.  Interment with military honors will be at Bethesda Cemetery in Hilltop Lakes, TX
